First Place: Sylvia Williams

When considering this challenge, I was inspired by one of our speakers, Mary Jo Hoffman. This was a challenging project for me, and my first attempts produced sad gray images. I could not get my background as white as I wanted so I first needed to set my camera's white balance using a piece of gray cardstock.

I used my little table top ‘studio’ that my husband built for me, using a matte white background. I tried natural light outside, but eventually moved inside and set up lighting.

I cropped the photo tight around the flower. I think that I edited in Photoshop to remove all the bits of vase and stem.

I processed the photo in Lightroom. For sure, I upped the exposure, clarity and texture on the photo. I also used a radial gradient mask to further lighten the center of the flower.
